Many churches with roots from the Reformation often cite Eph 2:8-9 as precluding water baptism from God’s plan for salvation. Does the human work required in baptism preclude it from being part of God’s grace based upon Eph 2:8-9? When dealing with this passage, Martin Luther responded to his contemporaries that salvation is not man’s work but is God’s work. But this deflects the point that many Reformed teachers are making when quoting Eph 2. We will address this question pointedly by allowing the Bible to interpret for itself the concept of work. And if baptism is a work, then did Jesus sin by performing works on the sabbath? We'll explore answers to these questions and more in Episode 2: Baptism and Work and a Sinless Jesus.
